Reported Crimes Decline in Hazlet

The Uniform Crime Report shows that the number of reported crimes in 2013 dropped by almost 18 percent in 2013.

Crime in Hazlet dropped by 17.9 percent last year, according to data released by State Police as part of the annual Uniform Crime Report (UCR).

The number of crimes reported in 2013 dropped to 289, down from the 352 that were reported in 2012, according to the report.

Hazlet’s Crime Index dropped from 252 in 2012 to 204 in 2013. Non-violent crime dropped to 197 reported incidents in 2013, down from 242 in the previous year.

Violent Crime dropped to 7 incidents in 2013, down from 10 in the previous year, according to the report.

Assaults dropped to one incident in 2013, down from 5 in 2014.

There were 85 reports of simple assault (using hands, fists and feet) in 2013, down from 100 in 2012.

Burglaries also dropped, 22 reported incidents in 2013 compared with 28 in 2012. Of those in 2013, 15 were forcible entry.

There were 7 motor vehicles stolen in Hazlet in 2013, up one from the previous year. Of those, 5 were cars and 2 were termed “other vehicles.”

The number of reported robberies increased in 2013. There were 6 last year and 5 in 2012.
