Police Investigating Hit and Run

Crash occurred at a Route 9 intersection on Tuesday afternoon

Toms River police are investigating a Tuesday hit and run crash at the intersection of Cox Cro Road and Route 9.

Zbigniew Skora, 62, was driving a 2002 Honda when he allegedly struck a traffic signal and tractor trailer stopped on eastbound Cox Cro Road at the Route 9 traffic light at 4:30 p.m., said Chief of Police Michael Mastronardy.

"Mr. Skora then fled westbound on Cox Cro Road," Mastronardy said. "A witness gave a Pennsylvania plate that police dispatchers were able to trace through department records to a home on Camino Verde."

Skora faces "numerous" motor vehicle offenses following the incident and Officer Charles Grainger is investigating, the chief said.

The driver of the the tractor trailer, 54-year-old Robert Coccia of Lacey, was not injured, according to Mastronardy.

Ever notice how many more out of state, other than the volunteers for Sandy, plates there are in our town. I thought it was the law, after moving here to NJ, given a fair amount of time......you had to get Your car registered in New Jersey and get NJ plates. How do we know if these out of state vehicle owners have a license, registration or insurance???? New Jersey is getting to be very lax state and forget about our Township!!!

I suspect the out of state plates have more to do with NJ's insurance rates.
