Nine Count Indictment For Alleged Locker Room Thief

Robert S. Suliga of Somerset indicted on charges related to $10,000 of thefts of football equipment at high schools in Holmdel, Middletown, Manalapan and Red Bank.

A Monmouth County Superior Court grand jury has returned a nine-count indictment against a Somerset County man who police say drifted in and out of locker rooms at Holmdel High School, St. John Vianney of Holmdel and Middletown North last year, stealing thousands of dollars worth of boys' football equipment. 

Sharp-eyed Holmdel police detectives recognized his car on from surveillance videotape on Nov. 26, 2010, authorities said. He was stopped in the parking lot of Holmdel High on that evening during a football tournament, and police said a check of his trunk revealed Middletown North football equipment.  Read the story reported in Holmdel Patch here. 

The Grand Jury voted that nine criminal charges may be brought against Robert A. Suliga of the Franklin Township section of Somerset. The Grand Jury does not determine guilt or innocence.

The charges are:

  • Three counts of burglary (a third degree crime) for unlawfully entering the Holmdel High School boys locker room on Sept. 15, 2010;  and for entering St. John Vianney High School and Middletown North High Schools between Nov. 1 - 26, 2010. 
  • Three counts of theft of movable property (a third degree crime) for unlawfully taking football jerseys and helmets valued at $700 belonging to Holmdel High School; and also for unlawfully taking footballs and jerseys belonging to St. John Vianney High School valued at $7,446; and for taking football helmets and jerseys valued at $1,765 from Middletown North. 
  • One count of attempted burglary for attempting to enter Holmdel High School on November 26, 2010
  • One count of unlawful possession of a weapon (fourth degree crime) for carrying a sword on  November 26, 2010. 
  • One count of receiving stolen property worth $2,055 belonging to Manalapan High School, Red Bank Regional High School and Middletown North High School.
