Manalapan School Bus Runs Off Road, Driver Arrested

No children were injured in the accident; the bus driver was arrested on outstanding warrants and driving with a suspended license, police said.

A Manalapan-Englishtown Regional School District bus was ran off the road and struck a light pole and tree at around 8:52 a.m. Tuesday morning, police said. The accident occured on Smallwood Lane near Scott Lane, off Taylors Mill Rd.

None of the 37 children on the bus, ranging from first grade to fifth grade, were injured, but the bus driver required medical attention for glass in her eye, Public Information Officer Mike Fountain said.

The bus driver, Kristy Tufle of Manalapan, was arrested at the scene for having three outstanding warrants totaling $3,400 bail, Fountain said. Tufle, 37, was also charged with driving with a suspended license. Tufle is employed by the Manalapan-Englishtown Regional Schools, according to Fountain.

Tufle is currently being processed at . Fountain said that a release or jail determination is not yet known.
