Man Indicted on Charges of Possession, Distribution of Heroin in Matawan, Hazlet, and Keyport

He was arrested in January and was allegedly in possession of nearly 500 decks of heroin

A Monmouth County Grand Jury voted Thursday to indict an East Orange man on charges that he was in possession of and intended to distribute heroin in Matawan, Hazlet and Keyport.

Reginald Roe, 31, was allegedly branded with the name "FedEx," on Jan. 9, 2012, Lt. Ben Smith told Patch in January.

The heroin had a street value over $5,000, according Smith.

Roe was for allegedly selling narcotics from a apartment on Ravine Drive in Matawan.

Police continued to surveillance Roe after gathering information that he was still selling drugs in the area, Smith said.

On the evening of Jan. 9, 2012, Matawan Detectives Joe Lovallo and Steve Sakowski were conducting surveillance of a blue 2000 Volvo and followed the car to Hazlet, where the detectives witnessed a drug transaction, Smith said.

Hazlet Patrolman Scott Randolf stopped the Volvo in the McDonald's parking lot near the intersection of Route 35 and Hazlet Avenue at about 7 p.m. Inside the vehicle, police allegedly found Roe in possession of 492 decks of heroin.

Two other individuals in the car , and no charges were filed against the driver, a Hazlet resident.

Roe was indicted on charges of second degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance and of third degree intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance.

An indictment does not indicate a conviction, only that a formal trial may be brought against the individuals named in it.
