Holmdel Police Cheered On Despite Rain During Special Olympics Torch Run

Donations to the Special Olympics of NJ are still being accepted.

The cheering section gets a little bit bigger every year.

Holmdel Police ran the Special Olympics Torch Run on Friday, and despite the rain from Andrea were able to pass the torch to Hazlet as officers around the state ran for the cause.

For the past two years, Holmdel Board of Education President Ana Vander Woude and several area moms have been the heads of a cheering section.

"It was such a fun day, the rain didn't dampen anyone's spirits. If the Holmdel PD was ready to run, then we were ready to cheer!" Vander Woude said. "Our families are so moved by the incredible support that the Holmdel PD extends to our community --especially to our children--on a regular basis that the very least that we could do is express our gratitude by cheering them on."

Donations are still being accepted. Anyone who would like to donate can do so online this year at the Torch Run website. Make sure you choose Holmdel Twp. Police, Run 07 in order for Holmdel to get the fundraising credits.
