Holmdel Officer Narrowly Avoids Accident With Alleged Impaired Driver

Rachel Ryan, 22 of Colts Neck was arrested in Holmdel for several motor vehicle violations and allegedly driving under the influence.

A Holmdel police officer narrowly avoided a collision with a Colts Neck woman who was allegedly driving under the influence, according to police.

Rachel Ryan, 22 of Colts Neck was arrested on March 21 after allegedly swerving into oncoming traffic and almost striking a police car on Route 34.

According to Holmdel Police, Ryan was traveling at high speed when she left her lane and began to travel toward an officer, who then swerved and ended in the shoulder of the road.

Ryan was pursued by police for a half mile before pulling over, at which time Ryan was allegedly discovered to have marijuana in a grinder and a glass pipe with marijuana residue.

A sobriety test was issued in the field, which Ryan allegedly failed. Ryan was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence, possession of marijuana, reckless driving, failre to drive in a single lane, and possession of a controlled dangerous substance.

Ryan was processed at the Holmdel Police Department and released with a pending court date.
