Hazlet Police Blotter: Sept 29, Oct. 11-21

Police say a drunk driver hit four cars on Lynn Boulevard.

The following information was released by Hazlet Police on Oct. 23. An arrest is not a conviction. 

Sept. 29: An off-duty officer said he witnessed Gerald Klunek, 47, of Tall Oaks Drive in Hazlet sideswipe a car on Lynn Boulevard near Middle Road around 8:15 p.m. When Ptl. Richard Jaeger showed his badge and instructed the driver to stop, Klunek continued on at low speed, sideswiping two more vehicles and hitting the last one head-on. Klunek's blood alcohol content was .18, according to police. He was arrested by Ptl. Thomas Enright who charged him with driving under the influence, as well as two counts of failure to report an accident because police say he attempted to flee the scene.

Oct. 11: A laptop was reported stolen sometime in the night from an unlocked car parked on Hudson Ave. in West Keansburg. The theft is believed to have occurred between midnight and noon.

Oct. 13: A satellie radio was stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked on Carmen Street in West Keansburg sometime between midnight and noon. 

Oct. 14: Louis Damato, 41, of St. Peter's Place in Keyport was arrested for stealing nine wooden pallets from behind K-Mart in Hazlet. Holmdel Police received a report that a witness had seen a man take them from behind the store and drive them to the Holmdel Motor Inn on Route 35 around 9:20 p.m. The pallets were valued at $180, and returned to KMart.

Oct. 15: Charlene Seelinger, 51, of Picaron Place in South Amboy was ticketed by Ptl. Kevin Geoghan on Route 36 for driving uninsured and with a suspended license.  

Oct. 16: Dawn Sachs, 45, of Willow Street in Keansburg was arrested and charged with shoplifting bed sheets, clothes and perfume from KMart by allegedly concealing them in her pocketbook around 2:30 p.m.

Oct. 17: A woman who parked her car outside Dunkin Donuts on Route 35 leaving her car doors unlocked and a pocketbook on the seat while she attended a funeral nearby, later reported that someone stole her pocketbook around 7 p.m.

Oct. 21: The owner of a 2000 Dodge Durango told police that someone broke into his home at the Locust Grove Trailer Park around 7:30 p.m. to steal car keys and drive off with the car, which had $1,000 cash in the glove box.
