Hazlet Man Arrested for Operating Alleged Stolen Vehicle

Holmdel Police made the arrest with the help of the new Automatic License Plate Reader technology recently installed on a police vehicle.

On July 20, Holmdel Police Ptl. Andrew Kret was patrolling Laurel Avenue and Commons Way in Holmdel when he received an alert from the installed in the car that it had read the plate of a reported stolen vehicle. 

But the officer was unable to visually locate the vehicle, shown on the monitor as an older Chevy pickup truck with the rear window wrapped in plastic. Another officer joined to scan the highway and its parking lots, but the vehicle was not found. The information was given to Hazlet Police.

Around 11 p.m. the same evening, Hazlet Police Dept. located the 2001 Chevy S10 pickup truck on Union Avenue and stopped the vehicle in Holmdel Plaza, according to Holmdel Police.

Hazlet Police Officer Maryanne Smith placed Allen Wojcik, 347 Middle Road, Hazlet under arrest for receiving stolen property and numerous motor vehicle violations, according to Holmdel Police. 

The vehicle was impounded and towed by AM/PM Towing.  It had been reported stolen on July 16.
