Hazlet Fire Brought Under Control By Quick-Thinking Neighbors

Firefighters arrived on the scene to find Cresci Boulevard residents using garden hoses to put out a fire that could have spread to nearby homes.

Residents of Cresci Boulevard in Hazlet banded together Monday to control a brush fire burning in a patch of trees and other plants between two homes.

The Hazlet Township Fire Department was called to the scene slightly before 5 p.m. but the flames had been mostly put out, according to Hazlet District 1 Chief Rob Cullen.

"Concerned neighbors were able to bring all of their hoses out and the neighborhood pretty much put out the fire," Cullen said.

The heat from the flames melted a portion of paneling on the home, located at 91 Cresci Boulevard, however no fire damage was sustained.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
