Gas Main Leak Causes Evacuation of 15 Homes in Holmdel

A gas main leak in a neighborhood off Telegraph Hill Road was reported early Tuesday morning.

Approximately 15 homes were evacuated in the area of Windswept and Cherry Hill Road Holmdel early Tuesday morning, after workers ruptured a gas main, causing it to leak in the neighborhood.

Holmdel Police said workers from Shorelands Water Company struck and broke the line in the process of fixing a water main break from Monday afternoon.  Shorelands alerted police to the break around 7 a.m

Residents were sheltered at the Holmdel Community Center for three hours, until the line was repaired at 10 a.m.
