Four Car Accident on Route 35 at Laurel Ave. Tuesday

Southbound lanes were closed for one hour during the investigation around 7 p.m. Tuesday.

A four-car accident at Route 35 and Laurel Avenue in Holmdel Tuesday night sent one woman to the hospital and shut down the busy southbound lanes for an hour around 7 p.m.

According to Ptl. James Archinaco of the Holmdel Police, a 2002 Mercury Mountaineer driven by 57-year old James P. Rosko of Fanwood failed to stop for a red light in the fast lane. Rosko  wound up rear-ending a 1997 Hyundai Accent in front of him, driven by 74-year old Columbia Gargiulo of Red Bank.

The impact caused a chain reaction. Gargiulo’s vehicle in turn struck a 2006 Nissan Sentra, driven by 24-year old Will Clayton of New York. The Sentra then struck a 2007 Jeep Liberty, driven by 45-year old Kathleen P. Granito of Belford section of Middletown.

Gargiulo sustained a minor leg injury and was transported to Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank by the Holmdel First Aid Squad.

The Holmdel Fire Company #2 also responded to the scene and assisted.

Three vehicles sustained extensive damage and had to be towed from the scene.

Lt. Keith Cannata, Cpl. William Cusick, Ptl. James Archinaco, and K9 Officer Van Pelt responded to the Feb. 14 accident. 

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
