Elderly Resident Killed At Route 36 & Broad Street in Keyport

Police say an 85-year old man died in an accident on Route 36 Saturday morning.

An 85-year old Keyport man died after being struck by a car at the intersection of Route 36 and Broad Street on Saturday around 8:38 a.m.

According to Keyport Police Chief George Casaletto, the man was crossing at the intersection of Broad and Route 36 when he was struck in the northbound lane by a 2012 Jeep driven by a 64-year old Union Beach resident. 

The accident victim was taken to Bayshore Community Hospital by Keyport First Aid, where he was pronounced dead. His name has not been released pending notification of next of kin. Keyport Fire Dept. also assisted at the scene.

The accident is being investigated by the Keyport Police, Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office and Monmouth County SCART team.
