Car Accident Slows Route 35 Traffic in Holmdel
Traffic is slow on Route 35 South between Centerville Road/Union Avenue and Miller Avenue where one traffic lane is closed.
Traffic is slow on Route 35 South in front of the Cosmetic Essence (CEI) building, following a car accident around 3 p.m.
A female driving a Toyota four door sedan hit a utility pole, and the impact deployed the airbags and snapped the pole in half. Wires were still attached to the pole.
The driver was transported to Bayshore Community Hospital in Holmdel, according to Holmdel Fire & Rescue Chief John Boyle, Sr.
One highway traffic lane was closed, and traffic back-ups were building.
"This happened about an hour ago right in front of me," Nikki Wheeler Gosney wrote on the Monmouth County Police, Fire & EMS Facebook page. "I saw the pole come down, it landed just feet from my car. I really hope (I think it was a lady) is ok. Sending positive vibes."
Holmdel Fire & Rescue Company was called to scene on word there was smoke coming from the car, but there was no fire, said Holmdel Fire & Rescue Company President John Boyle, Jr. They remained on the scene, standing in the shade of the tree, while utility lines were secured by Verizon and JCP&L.
This article will be updated with the Holmdel Police report when it is released.
