Brush Fire Quickly Put Out Near Middle Road

A lit cigarette ignited the blaze, said an official.

Holmdel Fire Company Number Two was called to extinguish a brush fire behind a small strip mall at Middle Road and Laurel Avenue, near the Hazlet border.

The cause of the fire was a lit cigarette, tossed in the reedy brush behind the building, said Fire Company Chief John Boyle Sr.  The fire was quickly put out.

Yesterday, a brush fire was reported at Natco Park in Hazlet. Fire officials warn 2012 could be a bad year for brush fires due to the lack of snow.
