Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 6, 2013, from 2-4 and 7-9pm at Day Funeral Home 361 Maple Place, Keyport, NJ 07735. A prayer service will be held at the evening viewing.

Thomas D. Reddington, 79 of Hazlet, NJ passed away on Friday, February 1, 2013 at Bayshore Hospital. Thomas lived in Brooklyn until moving to NJ in 1984. He joined the Navy in 1952 and was Honorably Discharged in 1956 as a BT3. After the Navy, Thomas became a NYC Correction Office and retired when his family moved to NJ.  He was not done with civil service as he became a mail handler for the U.S Postal Service.  He eventually retired in 1998.

Thomas is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia of 52 years, his children, Kevin, Mark, Kathleen, Thomas, and Sean, and sisters, Peggy & Penny.  He is also survived by his grandkids, Tara, Laura, Robert, Cooper, Lauren, Casey, and Lily.

Even though our dad is no longer with us, he left a lasting impression with all of us. He was a gentle soul and his love for fishing was passed on to his sons, and grandkids.  he memories of fishing at Ballinakill, Ireland and going down to Keansburg pier will never be forgotten. Reading was a big hobby of his and the collection of books that he would pick up at garage sales would be all over the house, much to my mother’s delight. Stamps & Coins were also in the mix but they never replaced reading. Images of him sitting in the back yard with a book, cup of coffee, and a cigarette are memories we will greatly remember.

He kept the following prayer, for what we will never know, but in reading it, it gives us great comfort.

GOD SPEED YOU

God speed you on your journey.

May his Mother guide and guard you

May St. Joseph and St. Christopher be with you all the way.

May no cloud loom dark above you.

May no shadow fall before you.

May the light of peace be shining bright

Where’er you go or stay
