Obituary: James Broderick, 84, of West Keansburg
James was a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the NJ National Guard where he served for over 40 years, he also worked as a part time reporter for the Asbury Park Press covering local government and other events for over 30 years.
James A. Broderick, 84, of West Keansburg, NJ, died on January 25, 2013 at Bayside Manor in Keansburg, NJ. He was born in Newark, NJ and lived in WestKeansburg most of his life.
James was a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the NJ National Guard where he served for over 40 years, he also worked as a part time reporter for the Asbury Park Press covering local government and other events for over 30 years.
In his retirement he was a limousine driver for Olympic Limo service, a job he enjoyed due to the different people he met. James was a communicant of St Catherine’s Roman Catholic Church of Middletown and a proud graduate of St Benedict’s Prep High School in Newark, NJ. James was a member of the Military Officers Of America, and one of the founding members of the National Guard Militia Museum at Sea Girt, he was also a lifetime member of the Army and National Guard Association. James also loved being a pilot, flying small aircraft from Allaire Airport in his retirement years. He published articles in the trade magazines Army and Army Trainer.

He was a quiet and generous man with a sense of humor, had a passion for writing, loved reading, spending time with his grandchildren, and could make a mean gumbo.
Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Doris Broderick, son - James (Laura) Broderick; 3 daughters - Maria (Francis) Dean ; Carolyn (Edward) Huntington ; Jane (Michael) Vamos; all of W. Keansburg, NJ. Daughter in Law - Wendy Fleming of MI; sister - Susan (George) Schaefer of CT; 13 Grandchildren; Melody, Delia, Matthew, Jimmy, Bryan, Eric, Patrick, Michael, Mariah, Jack, Grace, Lily, Francis, and 4 Great Grandchildren; Noah, Ashley, Megan, Brandon;

James was preceded in death by his parents, James A. Broderick Sr, and Dolores Broderick and also two beloved sons, Michael Broderick (1985) and Patrick Broderick (1995).
Visitation will be held Monday, January 28, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, 115 Tindall Road, Middletown. Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday January 29, at 8:45am at the funeral home. A Funeral Liturgy will be offered at 9:30 am at St. Catherine's Church, 110 Bray Ave., N. Middletown.
