Obituary: George Connelly Jr., 72, of Hazlet

Connelly served in the United States Army and after 10 years he was honorably discharged after fighting in the Vietnam War. He worked at IFF in Union Beach, New Jersey, retiring in 2000, after 33 years of service.

George W. Connelly Jr., 72, of Hazlet, New Jersey, formerly of Union Beach, New Jersey and born on April 20, 1940, left this earth to go to a better place after battling numerous medical issues since June of 2012. He lost his ultimate battle to liver cancer on Friday, February 8, 2013.

George served our country in the United States Army and after 10 years he was honorably discharged after fighting in the Vietnam War. He worked at IFF in Union Beach, New Jersey, retiring in 2000, after 33 years of service. He also worked as a special police officer in Union Beach, New Jersey, throughout the 1970's and 1980's. He was also a member of Union Beach first aid in the 1970's.

George is survived by his daughter, Christine Connelly-Robinson and her boyfriend Christopher Robinson, along with their children, Erin and Eric; his daughter Linda Connelly and her fiance Ralph Long, whom he looked at as one of his own sons and Linda's children, Glen Michaud Jr., David Estelle Jr. and Tara Ann Estelle; his son Michael Connelly and his wife Christine and their children, Amanda and Kieran; his son Anthony Connelly and his children, Tyler and Bella. He is also survived by his Goddaughter, Cathy O'Reilly and his cousin, Diane Croce, who he was closest to and who has been by his side through most of his life, along with his dear friend, Rob Betz and his family, among many, many other family and friends. He will truly be missed by us all.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Monday, February 11, 2013 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM and Tuesday morning, February 12, 2013 from 10:00 to 10:45 AM at the Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 3269 State Route 35 North, Hazlet, New Jersey. A prayer service will be offered at the funeral home during Monday's visiting hours. Entombment will follow Tuesday morning's visiting hours at Green Grove Cemetery in Keyport, New Jersey. In lieu of flowers, donations to the family to offset medical expenses would be greatly appreciated.
