Obituary: Edward Schumacher of Holmdel

Gave generously to his community. Funeral is Wednesday.

Edward Schumacher of Holmdel died Saturday, April 23, 2011. 

He was a tireless advocate for the environment and community issues. With his wife Doris, Schumacher put aside five acres of their property adjacent to Holmdel Park for land conservation.  The couple were longtime supporters of the SPCA and animal rights within the county.

Schumacher was a member of the Holmdel Community Church, UCC for 60 years, where he served faithfully on multiple committees and in many leadership positions.  He was known for his hospitality.

Schumacher was born October 1, 1922 in Jersey City, NJ and graduated from Newark College of Engineering. He pursued courses at Stevens Institute of technology and served in the Army during World War II.

He worked at Exxon in Linden, NJ for over 25 years, traveling extensively world wide as a top trouble shooter. Utilizing his engineering skills, he held multiple patents there.  Upon retirement from Exxon in 1980, he began his own engineering consultant business, PROMAC, which he ran successfully for 10 years.

He was predeceased by his parents Otto and Henrietta Schumacher, his sister Irene Schumacher, and Doris , his beloved wife of 65 years.  He is survived by his niece Elizabeth Olsen and his cousin Joan Henricksen.

Funeral Services

Visitation will be held Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00PM at the Holmdel Funeral Home 26 South Holmdel Road, Holmdel.  A Funeral Service will be offered Wednesday 11:00 a.m  at the Holmdel Community Church, Holmdel.  Interment will be in the Holmdel Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, Ed requested that any donations be made to the Holmdel U.C.C. Building Fund, 40 Main Street, Holmdel, NJ 07733
