Hazlet Resident Mary Strang Dies at 87

Strang was a volunteer with the St. Vincent dePaul Society of Holy Family RC Church,

Mary (Monroe) Strang, 87, of Hazlet, passed away, Sunday, February 9, 2014, at Jersey Shore University Hospital, Neptune. Born in Jersey City, she resided there before moving to Hazlet in 1956.  She worked as a sales associate with Family Circle, then Bradlees, Hazlet, retiring at the age of 65. She was a shop steward for the Union; a communicant of St. Joseph RC Church, Keyport; a volunteer with the St. Vincent dePaul Society of Holy Family RC Church, Union Beach; and a member of the Holy Family and Union Beach Seniors.  Mary was very proud of her Irish Heritage. 

Mary was predeceased by her parents who were Irish Immigrants, John and Delia Byrne Monroe; her beloved husband, John P. Strang; and a son-in-law, Michael Hagan.  She is survived by her loving children, John Strang and wife Carol of Brick; Maryann Hagan of Middletown; Patricia Cino and husband Sal of Belford; and Michele Byrne and husband Brian of Macungie, PA; a dear brother, James Monroe of Toms River and a dear sister, Agnes Mack of Ft. Myers, FL; eight cherished grandchildren, Kyle Strang of Brick;  Michael Hagan of Tallahassee, FL; Kerry Thomson of Middletown; Patrick and Sean Hagan, both of Middletown; Marc Cino of Red Bank; John Cino of Hoboken; and Colin Jude Byrne of PA; and four precious great grandchildren, Michael and Jack Hagan, and Nora and Mara Thomson.  She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Family and friends are invited Tuesday, February 11, 2014, from 2-4 & 7-9PM at Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place, Keyport, NJ  07735; and Wednesday, February 12, 2014, 9:45AM at the funeral home, with a 10:30AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph RC Church, Keyport.  Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Keyport.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN  38105, in Mary’s memory.  To offer the family online condolences or for directions to the funeral home, please visit www.dayfuneralhome.com.
