Hazlet Resident Eda M. Gilligan Dies at 73

Gilligan worked as a medical secretary for Bayshore Community Hospital.

Eda M. (Pangia) Gilligan, 73, of Hazlet, passed away, Tuesday, February 25, 2014, at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank.  Born in Brooklyn, she resided there, moving to Hazlet 45 years ago.  From 1957 to 1966, she worked for Manufacturers Hanover Bank, 18th St., NY, NY.  For 30 years, she worked as a medical secretary for Bayshore Community Hospital, Same Day Surgery.  She was a communicant of St. Benedict RC Church, Holmdel, as well as a CCD teacher. 

Eda was predeceased by her parents, Albert and Grace (Mercurio) Pangia.  She is survived by her beloved husband, John Gilligan; two loving sons, John Gilligan and his wife Nancy of Scotch Plains and James Gilligan of Washington State; two dear brothers, Michael and Joseph Pangia, both of Florida; and a cherished grandson, Ryan of Scotch Plains.  She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Family and friends are invited Thursday from 7-9 p.m. and Friday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place, Keyport, NJ  07735; and Saturday at 9 a.m. at the funeral home, with a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Benedict RC Church, 165 Bethany Road, Holmdel.  Entombment will follow at Holmdel Mausoleum, Holmdel.  To post an online condolence to the family or for directions to the funeral home, please visit www.dayfuneralhome.com.
