Former Union Beach Police Chief Dies at Age 74

After serving on the police force in the Borough of Union Beach for 37 years, Henry F. Riegler retired in 2004, as Chief of Police.

Henry F. Riegler, 74, of Union Beach, passed away, Monday, Oct.7, 2013, at home.  Born in Jersey City, he resided there, moving to Union Beach 49 years ago.  After serving on the police force in the Borough of Union Beach for 37 years, he retired in 2004, as Chief of Police.  He was also a member of the Union Gardens Fire Company; and a communicant of Holy Family RC Church, Union Beach.

Henry was predeceased by his parents, Louis and Marion (Riker) Riegler.  He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Janice (Rankin) Riegler; five loving children, Cheryl Leiningen of Port Monmouth; Michael and Craig Riegler, both of Middletown; Kevin Riegler of Matawan; and Jennifer Czepiel of Pompton Plains; 13 cherished grandchildren; and two special nieces and a nephew, Patricia Farleigh; Margo Evans and James Zdziebkowski.  He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Family and friends are invited Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place, Keyport, NJ  07735; and Friday, October 11, 2013, 8:30 a.m. at the funeral home, with a 9:30 a.m. Mass at Holy Family RC Church, 727 Route 36, Union Beach.
