Former St. John's UMC Secretary, Sunday School Teacher Dies at 87

Doris H. McKinley was a former Hazlet resident.

Doris H. (Haberstick) McKinley, 87, of Keyport, passed away, Monday, February 10, 2014, at Arnold Walter Nursing and Rehabilitation, Holmdel.  Born in South Belmar, she resided in Hazlet before moving to Keyport.  During Rev. Norman Reilly’s ministry at the St. John’s United Methodist Church, Hazlet, she worked as a secretary and a Sunday school teacher for 25 years, retiring in 1997.  She enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling and swimming. 

Doris was predeceased by her parents, Elmer and Louise Thompson Haberstick; her siblings, Barbara Haberstick, Elmer Haberstick and Marjorie DeLeva.  She is survived by her beloved husband of 67 years, Walter G. McKinley, Jr.; two loving daughters, Barbara M. Hyer and husband Bill of FL; and Karen Serbe and husband Bob of Hazlet; two cherished grandsons, Scott Hyer of FL and Robert Serbe of South Jersey; a brother-in-law, Robert McKinley of Schnecksville, PA; and several nieces and nephews.  She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Family and friends are invited Thursday, February 13, 2014, from 2-4 & 7-9PM at Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place, Keyport, NJ  07735; and Friday, February 14, 2014, 10AM at the funeral home,  with an 11AM service at St. John’s United Methodist Church, Hazlet.  Interment will follow at Atlantic View Cemetery, Manasquan, NJ.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John’s United Methodist Church, 2000 Florence Ave., Hazlet, NJ  07730.   To post an online condolence to the family or for directions to the funeral home, please visitwww.dayfuneralhome.com.
