Former Little League Coach Dies at 70

Visitation for James Joseph Finlay will be Friday, July 12 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Hazlet.

James Joseph Finlay, 70, of Hazlet passed away on Tuesday, July 9 at Morristown Medical Center in Morristown, New Jersey.

James was born on August 16, 1942 in West New York, New Jersey, where he grew up. In 1968, he and his wife, Susan, settled in Hazlet to raise their family. James worked as a public adjuster for Sarasohn & Company LLC. He was an avid New Jersey Devils and San Francisco Giants Fan. He and Susan enjoyed occasional trips to Atlantic City, along with traveling to Hawaii and the Caribbean. He was an active member of the Hazlet Youth Athletic League, where he was a member of the executive board, coached baseball and ran tournaments. 

He was predeceased by his parents, James and Helen (Salayi) Finlay. James is survived by his beloved and devoted wife, Susan (Hess) Finlay, his loving children, Michael K. Finlay of Hazlet, New Jersey, Cheryl Green and her husband Sam of Highlands, New Jersey, Jeffrey Finlay and his wife Holly of Brick, New Jersey, Jason Finlay of Brooklyn, New York, his dear sisters, Helen Rusch of Barnegat, New Jersey, Margaret Finlay of Barnegat, New Jersey, his cherished grandchildren, Sammy Green, Stephen Green, Jimmy Finlay, Chrissy Finlay, Crystal Green, Nicholas Finlay and Suzy Finlay, and his adored great grandson, Sebastian Green. He will be sadly missed, but never forgotten.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Friday, July 12 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 3269 State Route 35 North, Hazlet. A prayer service will be offered on Friday, July 12 at 7 p.m. In respect of James' wishes, he will be privately cremated.
