Keansburg Flood Control Work to Begin in August

The $3.4 million project is covered by federal funding.

Flood control repairs in Keansburg will begin this month, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. announced.

A contract was awarded to Di lorio Construction Corp. of Rutherford, N.J. for the work. The $3.4 million project will repair Keansburg’s levees and remove debris resulting from Superstorm Sandy.

The Army Corps of Engineers project is fully funded by the Sandy aid package passed by Congress.

“Many residents of Keansburg faced serious flooding during Sandy unlike anything the community has ever seen,” said Pallone.  “I’m pleased that the Army Corps is moving forward with this important project to restore our levees, which will protect Keansburg from flood threats.”

The levees will be restored to their pre-Sandy condition, and the damaged wing wall at the Thornes Creek closure will also be repaired.

The work, which is part of the larger Keansburg Beach Erosion and Hurricane Project, will minimize impacts on operations at the marina entrance.
