Irene - The Good, The Bad, and the Snugly....

Some random reflections on Irene

Just a few random thoughts now that Irene has moved on...

The Good....

Holmdel Fire Company #2, Centerville Road. - In between responding to 107 calls (107!!) they also found time to set up hundreds of cots in the shelter AND break them down afterwards and just for good measure pump out a flood at the rear of the High School during the storm.

Let no one misunderstand this - when I called in the middle of the storm because of the potential flood, Holmdel Fire Company #2, Centerville Road, responded with 22 firemen and every piece of equipment they had - Holmdel *finally* has a *real Fire Company, and one to be proud of.

Holmdel Police Department and Holmdel First Aid Squad - as usual - above and beyond all expectations. They were there when asked and they were still there even though they could have left!! Thank you all.

The Holmdel residents who came to help, not to hinder - you were all great but special mention to Ron D and family - again, above and beyond and thank you.

Pat, Serena and Rocco - 3 Township Committee members who were there when needed - and never have 110 cheeseburgers tasted so good - thank you Mr Mayor!!

The Bad...

A power company whose website has 2 pages that showed the number of outages in the town at any one time - but the trouble was the 2 pages were always different. At one point 1 page indicated 16 customers out whilst the other page indicated 123 out - and needless to say the higher number was closer!!

Folks who continued to insist that their power should be turned on first because they said they paid higher taxes that others whose had been restored already. As one person put it "I don't expect this sort of thing to happen in an "affluent" town." Perhaps Mother Nature can't be bought off???

The Snugly...

No power, no internet, no TV....

As I said - just a few "random" thoughts from a "random" mind.....
