Press release from Meridian Health

Holmdel, NJ – February 17, 2014 – Bayshore Community Hospital today announced a generous charitable contribution from Holmdel resident Angelo DeRosa. In his 37 years in Holmdel, Angelo has raised a family and has generously given his time to the community, including joining the Holmdel First Aid Squad where he has witnessed the care provided by Bayshore, hundreds of times.

Angelo’s position on the squad has given him a unique perspective on the recent momentum at Bayshore. “As EMTs, we immediately noticed a change in the Emergency Department when Bayshore became a part of Meridian Health; there was a complete transformation,” says Angelo. “Watching the emergency room team work together is like witnessing an orchestra perform. It is comforting to know that so many patients are in such capable hands.”

In 2013, Angelo responded to more than 400 first aid calls. However, his service spans much further than his role as an EMT. An active member of his church, Angelo serves on a committee that teaches community members the skills necessary to find employment. As the founder and chairman of his now multi-state company, Sterling Consolidated Corporation, the knowledge and expertise he has to share is invaluable.

Serena DiMaso, chair of Bayshore Community Hospital Foundation Board of Trustees and fellow EMT, had much to say about Angelo. “His passion for the well-being of others is evident in every aspect of his life. He really cares about his community, as demonstrated by this gift as well as his years of service to the Holmdel First Aid Squad.”

Angelo joins a growing number of community members who have stepped forward to support the Hospital’s vision. “When Bayshore first joined the Meridian Health family in 2010, we had a clear vision to grow the Hospital’s scope of services as well as its level of service,” says Tim Hogan, regional president of Bayshore Community Hospital and Riverview Medical Center. “Angelo’s support is particularly meaningful because he is a partner in providing care and truly believes in the power of having great health care locally.”

Since 2010 Bayshore has made significant advancements, adding the Center for Wound Healing, Center for Sleep Medicine, and Pediatric Care Center.  Most recently, Bayshore received approval from the Department of Health as a Primary Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) Hospital, to provide emergency angioplasty procedures on patients suffering from a heart attack.  In addition, as part of the Meridian Cardiovascular Network, Bayshore, along with the other four hospitals of Meridian Health, became an Accredited Chest Pain Center, making Meridian Health the first system in New Jersey to achieve this status. In early 2014, momentum in cardiovascular services will continue when Bayshore begins construction on two new heart and vascular laboratories.

Still wouldn't go to that hospital even if you gave me all the money in the world.

I'm still waiting for Tim Hogan to call me back because Riverview lost my loved one in the hospital for 24 hours. He never called me back and it's over a year ago.
