Cracked Olive Featured on Fox as Sandy Recovery Success Story

"There was food there, and people that haven't had a hot meal for five days," O'Connor told Fox.

A year after the storm, Cracked Olive owners feel firmly planted on two feet.

The Holmdel business and its owners, cousins Dan Duffy and Denis O'Connor, lost power for two weeks after the storm as much of the surrounding community did. But Cracked Olive was brand new, and the infant business took a hit.

In an interview with Fox News, Duffy and O'Connor recalled the bond Cracked Olive made with the community during that time, being the only source of a hot meal for some residents.

"There was food there, and people that haven't had a hot meal for five days," O'Connor told Fox.

The cousins teamed up with Holmdel Fire Co. 1 next door to create a makeshift soup kitchen in the fire department, where O'connor said the community "really came together."
