Holmdel HS Eco-Night

Holmdel High School Eco-Club is hosting its first ever Eco-Night, which will be open to all students and staff of the Holmdel Schools as well as all community members. Whether you are a seasoned environmentalist or new to the green movement, there will be something that catches your eye. All of this will be taking place Holmdel High School, 36 Crawfords Corner Road, in the Commons and auditorium from 6-9pm on Friday, December 13th. There is no charge for admission, but you will want to bring spending money for all of your “eco”-needs.

The purpose of Eco-Night is to raise awareness about being environmentally conscious, and to create excitement about going green in the community. Eco-Night will be structured similarly to the Earth Day Festival at Bayonet Farms. There will be tables with information, kid’s activities, and fundraiser items. Various “Green” Groups around New Jersey will be sending representatives and materials for the event. This will give the community a chance to ask questions and interact with them and also allow for networking among the groups themselves.

Local organizations include: the Holmdel Green Team, Friends of Holmdel Open Space, the Shade Tree Committee, Citizens for Informed Land Use, and the Citizens Climate Lobby. Other organizations sending materials include: Sierra Club of Monmouth County, Terracycle, Ten Thousand Villages, Greene Street, and NY/NJ Baykeeper. The final group that will be attending is Clean Ocean Action, a local ocean conservation organization. They are sending a representative to give a presentation. At 6:30 Clean Ocean Action will give a presentation in the auditorium which will run for about an hour. It will be geared towards a mixed audience because we are expecting that children and adults will be present.

This will also be your one stop shop for everything you need to go green. There will be reusable water bottles and coffee cups, Snack Taxi’s- which are reusable cloth snack pouches, and T-shirts for all ages. The proceeds from all of these items will benefit the Eco-Club and their future endeavors. The Terracycle bins will also be out for collection, so bring any of the following items to recycle: granola bar wrappers (foil lined), beauty products (ie shampoo container, lip gloss, etc), dairy tubs (from yogurt, sour cream, etc), writing utensils, and glue sticks.

Take a break from your busy holiday schedule to learn how to give a gift to the Earth!
