Wintry Weather Returns Tuesday

Freezing rain and slick conditions closes schools

Freezing rain is expected to continue through the morning commute, which is being made more difficult with icy conditions.

Holmdel Township schools were closed Tuesday. But Town Hall offices opened on time. Interim business administrator Ray Wilson said no snow-related problems were reported.

In the early hours of the morning, the township's Dept. of Public Works crews put down rock salt with spreaders to prevent freezing on road surfaces, said Jeffrey P. Smith, Jr. , the department's superintendent.

"The heavy rain predicted throughout the day will challenge the DPW staff to provide proper drainage of the rain water into storm water basins along the main and secondary roadways," he said in an email report.

Flooding is expected along roadways today, as snow melts.
