Seek Help from the Freeholders on Sewering Issue, Resident tells Mayor

In a letter, Anthony Cooper urges the mayor to attend the county Freeholder meeting Thursday.

The following letter was written by resident Anthony Cooper and given to Holmdel Patch for publication by Cooper.

To Holmdel Mayor Patrick Impreveduto,

It is time for Holmdel's Township Committee to take
official action defending Holmdel against the drastic Sewer
Service Area (SSA) changes recently proposed by the NJ
 Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP).

I urge
you to take official Holmdel Township action at the next
(May 26) meeting of Monmouth County's Board of Chosen
Freeholders -- please demand that Holmdel be explicitly
excepted from any approval which the Freeholders might
otherwise give to the newly revised SSA proposed by the
NJDEP in early May.

If you as Mayor or another
Township Committee Member cannot be personally present to do
this at their May 26 meeting, then please authorize the
Township's Administrator (Ray Wilson), Township Clerk
(Maureen Doloughty), or some other Township Official to
attend this meeting and deliver this message to the County
Freeholders.

NJDEP's newly revised SSA would allow sewers in the entire
472-acre Bell Labs/Lucent tract and in the entire 330-plus
acre Garden State Arts Center tract.

By contrast,
Holmdel has for years limited sewers in those two tracts to
only the footprints of their currently existing
buildings.

If Holmdel Township does not promptly take
official action at the County level to except Holmdel
out of NJDEP's newly proposed SSA, the ultimate result
may well be nearly unlimited development on these two tracts,
and eventually on most other portions of Holmdel's south slope.

Thank you,

C. Anthony Cooper, Ph.D.
