Wake Up With the Chickens at Longstreet Farm

Monmouth County Parks April activities include morning chores at Holmdel's Longstreet Farm.

Parent/Child Morning Chores at Longstreet Farm
April 6 at 8 a.m.
62 Longstreet Rd, Holmdel

Help the Longstreet Farm staff with morning chores. Intended for ages 4 and up. Learn to milk a cow, collect eggs, and feed the animals. The cost is $15 per pair; $5 per additional person. Cash or check only.

Drop-In Surprise Story Time
Saturdays, April 6 and 20 from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.

Look for the clue at the Horticultural Center entrance that leads to the secret meeting spot for story time. If it’s rainy or cold, story time will be inside the Horticultural Center. This event is free.

Rug Hooking and Braiding Demonstration
Saturday, April 6 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Longstreet Farm, 62 Longstreet Rd, Holmdel 

See experienced rug hookers in action during this free demonstration.

Guided Nature Walk
Saturday and Sunday, April 6 and 7 at 10 a.m.
Manasquan Reservoir Environmental Center, Georgia Tavern Road, Howell

Walk along the trail and learn about the animals who call the park home, guided by a Park System Naturalist.

Hearth Cooking
Sunday, April 7 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Historic Walnford, Walnford Road, Upper Freehold

Food historian Clarissa Dillon will be in the kitchen sharing stories about historical food, for free.

Open Ceramics
Sunday, April 7 from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Creative Arts Center,  Lincroft

Glaze and make your own pre-made pottery, which will be fired about a week after the event. The cost is $6 per hour plus price of bisque-ware; cash or check only. Pieces will be fired in about a week.

Krafty Kids Drop-In
Wednesday, April 10 from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Tatum Park, Middletown
Thursday, April 11 from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Thompson Park Visitor Center, Lincroft

Designed for ages 4 and up with an adult, kids are invited to create a craft to take home. This weekend's craft is a "News(paper) Years Project." The cost is $5 per person; cash or check only.

Open Shoot Archery
Saturday, April 13 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Thompson Park, Lincroft

Try your hand at archery during this open shoot at the Activity Barn. All equipment will be provided. This is a non-instructional program open to ages 8 and up (under 18 with adult). The cost is $7 per person. Cash or check only.

Natural Horsemanship Demonstrations

Want to learn about Natural Horsemanship? Watch staff play with the therapy horses on the ground and in the saddle. Q&A time will be provided.

Great Spring Perennial Plant Swap
Saturday, April 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Deep Cut Gardens, Red Hill Road, Middletown 

Bring plants in one-quart, one-gallon or two-gallon containers and take home the same size and number of plants. 

Spring Craft Show

Pick up the perfect item for your garden or home while on your way to the Perennial Plant Swap.

Working with Wood

Watch craftsmen use simple hand tools and historical techniques to make everyday objects. 

Turtles of Monmouth County
Saturday and Sunday, April 27 and 28 at 1 p.m.

Visit with and learn about the turtles of Monmouth County.

Historic Seabrook-Wilson House Tours
Sunday, April 28 from 1 to 4 p.m.
Bayshore Waterfront Park, Port Monmouth Road, Port Monmouth

Visit this house, which dates back to the early 1700s, and see displays on the ecology of the bay and local history.
