Rt 520 Closed Thursday Night, from Rt 34 to Boundary/Conover Rds.

An announcement from Monmouth County officials.

The section of Newman Springs Road (County Route 520) between Route 34 and the intersection of Conover Road/Boundary Road will be closed from 9 p.m. Thursday, March 8 until 6 a.m. Friday, March 9 for emergency pump-out work in the area of Hop Brook and a county culvert (A-19).

The small culvert under Newman Springs Road remains blocked and water continues to build up on the upstream, north side. A similar pump-out project was done in January and February.

“By pumping out the water that continues to accumulate we will avoid a spillover,” said Freeholder Deputy Director Thomas A. Arnone, liaison to the county’s public works and engineering department. “The pump out is also needed before the county can begin work to replace the blocked culvert.”

Route 520 will be closed to all vehicular traffic while the pump-out work is conducted. Next week, work will begin to replace the culvert. The road will not need to be closed for that phase of work.

• From Marlboro, motorists traveling east on Newman Springs Road (CR 520) will be detoured south on Boundary Road to Crine Road, traveling east on Crine Road to Dutch Lane Road, turning left onto Conover Road and returning to State Highway 34.  

• From Colts Neck and Holmdel, motorists traveling west on Newman Springs Road will be detoured south on State Highway 34 to Conover Road (Colts Neck), turning right onto Conover Road and  continuing to Dutch Lane Road to Crine Road, turning north onto Boundary Road and returning to Newman Springs Road.

“We know this is an inconvenience for the motoring public in that area,” said John W. Tobia director of the county’s Department of Public Works and Engineering. “To reduce the impact, the work will be conducted at night when traffic on the road is at a minimum.”
