Report: Whitney Houston's Funeral to be Held in Newark

Whigham Funeral Home reportedly handling funeral of late singer

The funeral for Whitney Houston, who was found dead Saturday inside a Beverly Hills, Calif. hotel room, will be held in Newark later this week, NBC New York is reporting.

Houston's body is being flown in to Teterboro Airport Monday evening, according to local police officials. Whigham Funeral Home, located at 580 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., is reportedly handling the funeral.

When reached by phone, an official with the funeral home said she could neither confirm nor deny that Houston's funeral would be hosted there.

Reports that the funeral will be held Friday at the Prudential Center surfaced Monday afternoon, according to NJ.com. The arena sits 18,500 people, a much larger venue than Whigham Funeral Home.

The Newark-born Houston started her singing career at age 11 as a member of New Hope Baptist Church's junior gospel choir. Outside the Sussex Avenue church Sunday, mourners during an early morning service.

Houston, 48, who suffered a long history of substance abuse, apparently drowned in a bathtub inside the Beverly Hilton Hotel after taking a cocktail of prescription drugs, according to reports. The cause of death is pending a toxicology report, which could take several weeks.
