Holmdel Girl Scouts Sweeten Weekend Meal Bags for Needy

Three troops worked together to pack 150 cookie packages. By Anissa Quirk

Holmdel Girl Scout Troops 48, 903 and 650 made and created beautiful cookies and Valentines to fill 150 weekend meal bags that St. Leo the Great distributes each weekend to local families who may not have the means to support themselves to the point where they may not have three square meals per day. St. Leo’s of Lincroft helps them out so they have something good to eat on the weekends.

Cheryl Keefe, St. Leo’s director of the Lunch Break Program, talked about her role and showed us their food pantry.  There are many people who volunteer their time to make these weekend meals possible:  Ed Coyle, a parishioner, donates all the paper products, The Barn in Middletown donates bread and St. Leo’s Social Concerns Ministry covers the cost of the deli meats and fresh fruit.

Our girls filled 150 bags with love on Feb. 9 – they included their cookies, cards and some candy to celebrate Valentine’s Day.  They, no doubt, made many families very happy that weekend.
