Commuter Lot in Holmdel to Close for Paving. But Not on Oct. 17

A flashing sign at the commuter lot is giving incorrect information, says representatives of NJ Turnpike and Academy Bus.

A flashing electronic sign announcing the closure of the popular bus commuter lot off Exit 116 of the Garden State Parkway in Holmdel is broadcasting incorrect information, said an Academy Bus manager and a NJ Turnpike Authority employee Wednesday afternoon.

The sign says "Lot to Close" and then flashess "10-17-11." But the paving project that was provoking the closure on Monday has been postponed until the spring, said Erika Vargas Garrison. She said the sign would be turned off. It is the second time the project has been rescheduled, she said.

Pavement in the lot is indeed looking a bit worn. When the work is scheduled, the bus commuters and carpoolers who fill most of the free 820 spaces will get advance notice of an alternate location to park, said a manager with Academy Bus, Cathy Ciliento.
