Five Things, For Monday, March 7

A day for excellence awards and a chance to improve driver safety. Also, Saturday night accidents and a look ahead to a burial ground dedication ceremony.

1.  One to two inches of rainfall in the Holmdel area has resulted in rapid rises in streams and creeks, according to the National Weather Service. The forecast for today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 47.  Wind around 15 mph. Tonight, the low around 27. 

2. The first Holmdel Journal Community Excellence Awards Luncheon is today at the Reception Center at the PNC Bank Arts Center. 

3. An AARP Driver Safety Program is being held at 9 a.m. at the Hazlet Meridian (formerly Bayshore) Fitness and Wellness Center. Click here for information.

4. Holmdel Police and other emergency services were busy Saturday night with a car vs. pole accident on Bethany Road, and a pedestrian struck on Laurel Ave. See the article on Holmdel Patch. On Friday around 3 p.m., a pedestrian was struck outside St. John Vianney High on Line Road. Aberdeen police are seeking witnesses to the accident. 

5. Sixty crosses will be placed at sites of the destroyed gravestones at Hendricks and Hendrickson Burial Ground, located on a plot in the Beau Ridge Townhouse Development. The formal event, with a dedication by the pastor of the Old Brick Reformed Church, will be on Sunday, March 13, 1-3 p.m.  An informal ceremony was held on Jan. 23. The Hendricks and Hendrickson Family Association of Monmouth County welcomes all who wish to come.
