Swords, Songs, and Culture at Polish Festival

Images of Sunday's Polish Heritage Festival at the PNC Arts Center.

The Polish American Heritage League and The Garden State Cultural Center Fund presented the 39th Polish Heritage Festival at the PNC Arts Center on Sunday. Thousands of visitors turned out to enjoy Polish music and dance, eat traditional Polish food and buy Polish CDs, books, and crafts, and socialize with fellow New Jerseyans in the old language.

Stealing the show was the Banner of Jasna Gora, a group of history buffs who dressed up like 17th-century warriors and noblemen from the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, which was once the largest nation of Europe. They enthralled the crowd with a sword fight, and then took turns cutting water bottles and cans in half with sharp swords.
