If you are the kind of Downton Abbey viewer who looks past the unfolding scenes in Mrs. Patmore's bustling kitchen in order to check out the copper pots or figure out what's cooking on the stove, you will probably enjoy a talk by food historian Judith Krall-Russo at the Wall Library on Wednesday, December 4 at 6:30 p.m.
The subject is "Life at an Edwardian Manor" and it will focus on the cuisine of the day. Krall-Russo will discuss the tastes of the patrician class, who dined on dishes of venison, roasted potatoes and desserts of floating meringue islands on vanilla custard. Downstairs, the middle and working class servants were served leftovers reproduced as hearty shepherd's pie and Yorkshire pudding.
The Wall Township Library is located at 2700 Allaire Road in Wall, 07719. Call the library at 732-449-8877 for more information.
This program will also be held at Eastern Branch Library, 1001 Route 35 in Shrewsbury, on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 2 p.m.
