Tuesday: Learn About the 'Old Barracks Museum' in Trenton

The Holmdel Historical Society hears from the head of New Jersey's only Revolutionary War-era barracks, located in Trenton.

Richard Patterson, executive director of the Old Barracks Museum of Trenton, will speak about the museum's unique mission at the Holmdel Historical Society meeting on Tuesday at 7 p.m., at the Holmdel Senior/Community Center.

The Old Barracks was built in 1758 for British Regulars here to battle the French and Indian War. It was also used during the Battle of Trenton and is now a museum that interprets the Revolutionary and Colonial periods. It was last fully restored in 1998.

After nearly a century of operating in a private-public partnership with the State, Gov. Chris Christie has proposed to eliminate all State funding for the Old Barracks. Since then citizen campaigns and Roma Bank have stepped forward to augment its budget.
