The Girl Scout Cookies Are Here!

Holmdel Girl Scouts outdo last year's sales by 30 percent.

Holmdel Girl Scouts sold an astounding 26,184 boxes of cookies this year, nearly 6,000 more than last year, reports Maryann Cianci, the Girl Scout Cookie Sale coordinator for Holmdel.

The number represents an increase of about 30% in cookie sales over last year, said Cianci.  And it may still go higher with booth sales. "Booth sales are where Girl Scout troops sell directly to the public at various locations around town during the month of March," said Cianci. Proceeds help fund Girl Scout activities.

On Tuesday, volunteers reported to the First Aid building on Centerville Rd. to accept delivery of 2,182 cases of cookies. It took the delivery crew over two hours to unload two trucks.

Maureen Dronne, a Holmdel EMS volunteer and former Girl Scout leader herself, welcomed the troop volunteers at the station. "Maureen is a wonderful friend to the Girl Scouts of Holmdel.  She offers the use of the facility every year, and she gives of her own time to be there at 7:45 am to open its doors to us," said Cianci.

Once again, those irresistible chocolate Thin Mints were the top seller, with the cocoa-caramel Samoas second and peanut-butter and chocolate Tagalongs third.
