With just a few days left, Patti Dickens of Reaching All in Need Everyday, is hoping one last push for donations will but RAINE over the top.
The group is collecting toys for 2,600 children age 0 to 18 and plans on delivering many of them Wednesday, with a little help from Santa Claus himself.
“All of the families are in need,” said Dickens. “A very big percentage of them are Sandy victims…We definitely still need toys and we still families coming in.”
Dickens says the RAINE is in need of toys for all ages, but donations for teenagers are often hard to come by.
“The age group we never seem to have enough for is 14 and up,” she said. We need gift cards, or make up or wallets and we really don’t get much of that.”
Based in Hazlet, RAINE serves the Bayshore community by providing food, clothing and assistance during the holidays, and various other necessities for families in crisis. Donations for this year’s toy drive will continue until Tuesday.
Donations can be brought to the old Shop Rite building, 1030 Route 36, in Hazlet, from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Monday and Tuesday, and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m Saturday. If you’re in the area, volunteers are also needed to help sort and wrap the gifts, and come Wednesday, the packages will be picked up by Santa Claus and hand delivered to families in the area.
