More Than 800 Attend Holmdel Earth Day 2012

A beautifully sunny and breezy day added to the enjoyment of the 14th annual Earth Day at Holmdel's Bayonet Farm. According to organizers, at least 800 people attended the fair, which could be a new record. The co-chairs of the festival were Holmdel residents Carol Beckenstein and Regina Criscione.

Numerous stands demonstrated ways people can better care for the earth. Ecology, conservation and celebration were the buzz words.

The Red Barn was the site of snacks and drinks. Directly outside of it, fair goers circled around presentations by Arcadia Parrot Rescues, Clean Ocean Action, and Rizzo's Reptile Discovery. Downstairs were tables set up to show people how to go geocaching at the scenic farm and adjoining trails, pet adoption, and a petting zoo.

Those who took the short walk to the Gray Barn could hear the music before they could see it. Inside, bands like Late 4 Lunch, the Lord of Liechenstein and the Swampgrass Jug Band rocked the house.

Holmdel's Finest K-9s were shown to the public they serve.

Tours of the historically significant Harding House were given throughout the day by Holmdel residents Phyllis Ameduri and Sam Shramko.

Under the blue and white striped tents and tucked in other areas were ecology exhibits and representatives from Holmdel-based Citizens for Informed Land Use, Holmdel Shade Tree Commission, the Holmdel Historical Society and the Holmdel Green Team. Regional groups, like Baykeeper and the Monmouth County Mosquito Commission and Master Gardeners also participated.
