Memorial Service Tuesday for Donna Holcomb Myers

Holmdel resident was national spokesperson for grilling and barbeque industry; business in Colts Neck.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday to remember Holmdel resident Donna Holcomb Myers, who died on Jan. 7 at age 72 at home.

The service will be held  at her church, the Lutheran Church of the Good Sheperd, 112 Middletown Road, Holmdel, N.J., at noon. 

The cause of death was Creuzfeldt-Jakob Disease, a rare degenerative neurological disorder. The brain disease is fatal, and usually runs its course in a year, according to the National Institutes of Health.

Well-known as a national spokesperson for the barbeque and grilling industry, Myers was also active in the business community. Members of the New Jersey Association for Women Business Owners are expected to attend the service, along with the her family, friends and neighbors.

"Donna was a ball of energy and fire. She was the barbeque public relations queen," said Donna Coulson, business colleage from Red Bank who got to know Myers through NJAWBO.

Coulson said Myers also represented the pickle industry, and sat on the board of the Gerber Life Insurance for a quarter century.

In a tribute to Myers published in Casual Living Magazine, where her monthly grilling column was a featured since 2007, it was reported that Myers' final column was in the September issue, with a note that she had retired due to illness.

Casual Living described Myers was widely as a national authority on backyard barbecuing and grilling, at one time having more than 30 grills in her backyard. 

Myers graduated from North Dakota State University with a degree in Home Economics.

She ran DHM Group in Colts Neck, a marketing company represented companies, many national brands, over the past 30 years

Myers was born in Minot, North Dakota, the daughter of Gladys and Kenneth Holcomb. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Charles L. Myers and by a son, Chip, his wife Kim and a grandson, Dylan Myers, according to the church.
