Junior Girl Scouts Reach the Statue of Liberty's Crown

Co-Leaders of Troop 1874, Nina Elliott and Linda Fernand, tell about the adventure they took to earn a badge.

Holmdel Junior Girl Scout Troop 1874 took a boat ride from Liberty State Park to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty on February 3, 2011.

After learning about the Statue of Liberty in school last year, the girls wanted to see her in person.

One of the interesting things that the girls did was to climb up 354 steps to get up to the Crown.  As the girls got closer to the crown, the stairs became smaller and more spiral-like.

Upon approaching the crown, the Troop became excited.  As they looked out of the windows of the Crown they experienced the breath-taking view of New York City.

Each girl earned a Junior Ranger Badge from the National Park Service.  This educational trip was paid for by the cookie sales of last year.
