Jr. Troop 1248 Play Detectives for the Afternoon

CSI episode right here in Holmdel

The Holmdel Police Dept. gave 10 local Girl Scouts a mini-course on self-defense and crime scene investigation.  The class took place at the Holmdel Senior Center on Febraury 15th.

Detective Thomas Foley organized the event for members of a Junior Girl Scout Troop 1248 working towards their CSI Junior badge and their Junior Journey award.

Ptl. Robert Philhower taught the girls basic self-defense moves. He explained what to do if they were ever forced into a strangers car, or locked in a trunk.

Det. Eric Hernando set-up a a pretend crime scene, and showed the girls how figure out what happened. They taped off the area of the crime scene, took pictures of the victim and conducted a make-shift forensic workshop. They even learned how to lift a fingerprint by using a white powder.

Troop leaders said the self defense training gave the girls confidence, and the CSI investigation was fun.
