Holmdel to Become "Pinkdel" for "Paint the Town Pink"

Riverview Medical Center's week-long breast cancer awareness campaign comes to town on May 4.

For the first time, Holmdel will join with other Monmouth County towns in Riverview Medical Center's positive-energy campaign called "Paint the Town Pink"  May 4-12.

The annual event encourages women 40 and older to pledge to have a yearly mammogram. It also raises funds to provide mammography for the uninsured and underserved in the community. Now that Bayshore Community Hospital is part of Meridian Health Network, Holmdel has been asked to join the celebration.

Banners will be strung across Holmdel Road announcing "Welcome to Pinkdel."  A pink line will be painted down a portion of Crawfords Corner Road near Town Hall (between the double yellows) and remain for a few weeks.

Other new towns are “Atlantic Pinklands” (Atlantic Highlands), “Little Pink” (Little Silver), “Pinkson” (Rumson), and “Pinkbury” (Shrewsbury).

These towns join  “Pink Bank” (Red Bank), “Pink Beach” (Monmouth Beach), and “Pink Haven” (Fair Haven). These towns will host special events and in-store specials from hundreds of businesses. There will be a "Pink Your House" contest and involvement from community groups.

In addition to in-store participation, Paint the Town Pink events will be held throughout the eight towns. Several Pink events are already confirmed for this year such as “Party for Pink” at the Navesink Country Club on May 4, and “Pink Community Day” at Riverview on May 6.

In addition, Bayshore Community Hospital will be hosting the first-ever “Pink Zumbathon” on May 12. The ever-popular “Girls Night Out” at The Downtown in Red Bank is back and bigger than ever for this year on May 10, with a new rocking twist.

The theme of this year’s Paint the Town Pink is “Men in Pink.” For 2012, the Pink communities will get to know several of the men who have supported Paint the Town Pink over the years such as Mark Arnone, the man behind the “Pink line” and Bob McKay, the man behind the “Pink lens.”

Mayor Patrick Impreveduto and the Township Committee gave a unanimous vote of support for the project at the March 1 Township Committee meeting, after the governing body heard a detailed description of what to expect from Riverview's Stacey Donovan.

"I lost my mother to breast cancer," Impreveduto said. "I'm at the forefront as much as possible when it comes to breast cancer awareness."
