Holmdel Cub Scouts Tour News Corp's World HQ in NYC

Scouts go behind the scenes of Fox News and The Daily, and get to check out a new project called Angry Birds Space. By Suzanne Gestrich

The Cub Ccouts of Pack 131, Den #9 have been working diligently to achieve their Tiger Cub rank. One of their requirements is to visit a television station, radio station or newspaper office to understand how people communicate.

On Saturday February 25, these intrepid scouts and their families traveled to the News Corporation World Headquarters in New York City. There they were met by Doug Butler, the director of Engineering at Fox News and Business Networks.

First up on Doug’s tour was Studio J, one of Fox’s largest studios and home to the show America Live with Megyn Kelly. Doug then guided the awestruck scouts through a control room, a tech center, and master control room (for inserting commercials).  He finished the tour at the technological heart of the Fox news operations in the building’s basement computer center.

After a large lunch, the scouts were treated to a tour of News Corporation’s ground breaking tablet news publication, The Daily. Their guide, in this case, was their Den Leader Dave Gestrich.

The scouts were completely over the moon when Dave gave them inside peek at a project featuring the yet to be released Angry Birds Space. They also took turns in donning the authentic NASA space gear used in the Angry Birds promotional guide. This time the parents were over the moon taking photos!

Dave concluded the field trip with a visit to The Daily’s video production facility.

It’s too bad all Saturdays can’t be that awesome!
