Brownies Pack Up Girl Scout Cookies for Less Fortunate

They offered them to the the Bridges at the Shore program.

With 28 boxes of Girl Scout cookies left over from their fundraiser, the Brownies of Troop 1545 had a great idea. They could offer them to people who could really use a little sweetness in their lives.

On Friday, May 4 the girls met at the Village School, and after getting a lesson from leaders on how to read a nutrition label and figure out a serving size, they packaged up 195 cookie bags to be included in lunches destined for recipients of the Bridges at the Shore program.

"Instead of just giving the boxes away to a charity, I wanted the girls to be involved somehow," said co-leader Rosemary Salvia. Volunteers from Bridges at the Shore travel to local towns in Monmouth County to distribute clothing, blankets, food, toiletries and conversation to those down on their luck.

Kathy Logan, a longtime Holmdel schoolteacher who now coordinates the Bridges at the Shore program in her retirement, came to the school to personally thank the young volunteers and take the packages for nest distribution, scheduled for May 18.
