Supporters of the Hazlet-based S.T.A.R.S (Special Teens and Adults Recreation Supporters) organization will celebrate the opening and dedication of two new bocce courts in Veterans Park, this Saturday Sept. 7th at 10am.
The courts will be dedicated to the Rocket Special Olympics team as well as in memory of Lt. Kevin Murphy, a police officer from Hazlet who always supported Special Olympics and the Rocket team.
The STARS organization was founded by a group of devoted parents in an effort to create more recreation and sporting opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities into adulthood, and has grown to include key community supporters, all eager to share results with the larger community.
The bocce courts were a request from the Rocket Special Olympic team, and will allow the team to train for future competitions, as well as being available and open for the whole community to enjoy! The STARS foundation held two successful 5 K races in Hazlet to fund the courts, and would love to thank the many generous Hazlet residents and sponsors for their support.
Come enjoy a great day in the park and play some bocce with us!
